Year of Establishment :- 1961

Department of Economics was established in the year 1961. Optional Economics is being offered at UG level in Arts faculty. The PG Coursein Economics was started in the year 1979. The department has continued to promote and upgrade the knowledge of students and has completed 54 years of its fruitful existence in 2015.

Prof D.C. Karmore was the first Head of the Department. On the basis of strong foundation laid down by the predecessors, presently the department has become the centre of excellence in Economics education in S. G. B. Amravati University, Amravati. Prof. D. K. Shrungare is the Head of the Department and two other contributory faculty members are Mr. Vilas Nagose and Mr. Vishal Mokashe. All the members of the department are working as a team to facilitate the transfer of economic knowledge with necessary skills to the students predominantly from the surrounding rural area. Faculty members are actively engaged in research and regularly participating in various workshops, seminars and conferences. The department has started a Ph.D. Research Center in Economics from 2021-22.
