Year of Establishment :- 1972

Department of Chemistry was established in 1972 at the time of incorporation of Science faculty to the then Adarsha Mahavidyalaya.
Since then the laboratories of the department were equipped with required basic facilities and sophisticated instruments were acquired through various schemes of University Grants Commission, New Delhi. At present the laboratories are well equipped for providing skill based knowledge to the undergraduate students to fulfill their aspirations. For optimizing the use of resources the same laboratories are also made available to the Jr. college students with proper time management.

Prof. J. P. Taori was the first Head of the Department followed by Frof. A. V. Bhagwat and Dr. S. P. Kulkarni. Since 2016, Dr. S. V. Manohare is the Head of the Department. On the basis of strong foundation laid down by the predecessors, presently the department has becomes the centre of excellence in chemical education in S. G. B. Amravati University, Amravati. Apart from the head of the department, three faculty members namely, Dr. V. A. Sadafale, Dr. P. M. Keche and Dr. H. P. Mungse are working as a team to facilitate the transfer of chemical knowledge with necessary skills to the students predominantly from the surrounding rural area. Faculty members are actively engaged in research and regularly participating in various workshops, seminars and conferences. Dr. S. V. Manohare received Teacher fellowship under XII plan of UGC in 2017. Young Research Scholar award was conferred to Dr. H. P. Mungse by Tribology Society of India in 2020.

The department has started a skill based Certificate Course in Chromatography from 2021 to enhance the analytical skills of the students.
